Expertise I bring
Over the course of my career, I’ve racked up more frequent flyer miles than a rock band on world tour—spanning five continents and 100+ countries (though, sadly, no private jets—yet!). I’ve rolled up my sleeves alongside scrappy start-ups, scaling juggernauts, and household names that probably need no introduction. If you’re running through the alphabet, I’ve hired everyone from Accountants to Zoologists, and from fresh-faced Graduates right up to those with executive corner offices—no two days ever looked the same.
Building my own teams? Yep, done that by the hundreds. Partnering with countless hiring managers? Absolutely. Over the years, I’ve developed an almost uncanny intuition for what’s going on in the heads of managers and recruiters at every stage of hiring—call it my sixth sense, or maybe just too many meetings.
Mentorship is my jam: I’ve coached hundreds to reach their career goals, and my shoulders are broad enough to weather the storm when someone’s finding their way (and yes, I can handle the occasional career crisis, caffeine required). My toolkit’s packed with Civil Service recruiting expertise, multiple competency frameworks, and enough interview techniques to spot the difference between “quirky icebreaker” and “is this a prank?”.
If you need help polishing your CV until it shines, look no further—I’ve seen so many resumes I’m convinced “font connoisseur” might belong on my own. And if humour helps put candidates (and clients) at ease, rest assured: between warm feedback and plenty of laughter along the way, my goal is that no part of the hiring journey ever feels daunting or dull.
Still waiting on my first astronaut search, but, as they say, watch this space…
My journey
My recruitment journey kicked off in a small UK agency, where the glamour was measured in rubber boots and hairnets, not poolside laptops or catered lunches (still waiting on those swimming pools by the desk—I promise, it’s only a rumour!). My task? Finding temp workers for a major meat factory. It may not have been a red carpet affair, but it taught me everything about grit, humility, and why a good pair of socks is crucial in cold storage.
Sometimes I marvel at the transformation in recruitment: today's “rockstar” recruiters flaunt flashy tech, free food, and, yes, occasionally more perks than a start-up CEO. But my real lesson came from meeting folks—often more qualified than me—who braved unknowns for the chance at a fresh start and a pay cheque. That quiet determination, the willingness to roll up sleeves for any role, inspired my lifelong advocacy for candidates—even when a boardroom full of execs is chanting “more, now, faster!”.
Ireland beckoned in ’06, and suddenly I found myself re-learning the ropes, this time at scale: hospitality, start-ups, and then stints in agencies where my job was to dream up new departments for clients ranging from tech to tractors. Yes, it was hard to leave Ireland behind, but Spain offered new challenges and sunshine (and let’s be honest, the odd siesta helps with candidate calls). Here, I got to work with future unicorn SaaS outfits and one of the world’s biggest corporations—still no astronaut hires, but my CV is ready if NASA calls!.
If I dust off my old recruitment logs, I’d estimate I’ve interviewed around 100,000 hopefuls, read 200,000 CVs, and lost count of the coffees consumed along the way. There have been dizzying highs, humbling lows, and some truly bizarre requests (ask me about the chickens someday). But looking back, I’m grateful for every twist and turn—because each step shaped not just my approach to business, but the person I am today.
About Marina
Originally hailing from Cape Town—where my childhood extracurricular activities included dodging political turbulence and perfecting my mom’s world tour itinerary—I was home-schooled in what I like to call “the university of life.” Growing up in the epicenter of Apartheid instilled in me the unshakeable belief that we’re all equals, whether you’re sporting high heels, hiking boots, or, dare I say, Crocs.
My formative years saw me swap South African sunshine for London drizzle, and later, the rolling green hills of Ireland—where I stumbled (sometimes literally) into the world of recruitment. Nearly two decades later, with a suitcase full of stories, plenty of air miles, and having helped hire thousands for some wonderful companies, I decided, in 2022, to hang up my recruitment boots and rethink my path. After all, business isn’t just about numbers; it’s about values, ethics, and, occasionally, paella.
Since moving to Spain, I’ve been building my own venture, teaching business-level English, and helping job seekers carve out their own success stories—but now, my focus is clear: the candidate always comes first! So, whether you’re looking for your dream role or a good laugh at my expense, you’re in good company.
Why I do what I do
The reason behind all this? Simply put, I genuinely love what I do, and I plan to keep at it until the time feels right to step back and enjoy a new chapter. When that day comes, my dream is to open an animal sanctuary—a place where abandoned animals and those born on the streets can finally find comfort and care. My hope is to run a charitable organization that’s properly supported and funded, so every animal gets the help they deserve. It might not be glamorous, but it’s a lifelong goal I hold close to my heart—so why not make it a reality?
